Other Voices a Hoax?
Ray Darby, P.E. - March 11, 2004

What Russ Steele's Other Voices column "Global Warming Hoax on Economy" didn't say is much more important than what it did say.

There are always going to be one or two scientists out of thousands that disagree with the majority. The researcher's paper (McIntye and McKitrick) quoted in Other Voices was published in a journal (Energy & Environment) recognized for unabashedly promoting papers on human contributions to climate change as a "hoax." E&E's editor, like Russ, believes the Kyoto protocol will kill our economy, so I understand their selection process.

What they refer to as Dr Mann's "bogus" research, however, was published in a highly respected, peer-reviewed journal (Nature). Sound science advocates don't let friends read E&E - please read the journal Nature or Science instead.

The future will confirm that our wasteful fossil fuel habits - wherein we waste over half the energy we consume, given the cost-effective alternatives available now - are not only detrimental to the environment but to the economy as well. If it's not already obvious to most people it will be painfully clear within ten years when affordable energy is history
